For the fourth year, the Junior League of Columbus (JLC) will host Project Prom, an annual event that provides prom dresses to local junior and senior high school girls. Project Prom promotes self-confidence and individual beauty by providing free prom dresses and accessories to high school girls who cannot otherwise afford them. We will offer new and lightly used prom dresses and accessories at no cost to participants. Since the event’s inception in 2011, the JLC has given away more than 300 dresses.

In addition to receiving the dress of their dreams, attendees and their parents will also sit through WAIT training, a program provided by Right From the Start. It teaches participants to make better decisions when it comes to boys, friends and life!

Dress collection is going on now. We are accepting gently used dresses in all sizes and are in dire need of plus size dresses. We are also accepting accessories, such as jewelry, wraps, shoes, purses and earrings. Dresses and accessories can be dropped off at any Wade Cleaners location. Donations will be accepted through Friday, February 28. You may also donate online or mail a monetary donation to the JLC. Please make checks payable to the Junior League of Columbus and put “Project Prom” in the memo line. Mail checks to The Wynn House, c/o Junior League, 1240 Wynnton Road, Columbus, GA 31901.

Project Prom will be held from 8 a.m.-12 p.m., Saturday, March 8, at 2119 Warm Springs Road (formerly St. Francis Center for Surgical Care, across the CVS on Hilton Avenue). Students are not required to show financial need, but they are asked to bring a valid school ID. The event is first come, first served and lines form early.
